Greek Gyros for 4 Qt. Slow Cooker

Ingredients:

 Recommended Hamilton Beach® Product:  4 Qt Slow Cooker 

MEAT INGREDIENTS

  • 3 lbs lamb, shoulder chops or cuts from the leg         
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice                   
  • 2 tbsp fresh garlic, minced               
  • 1/2 tsp salt                   
  • 1/2 tsp oregano, dried       
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper                   

CUCUMBER YOGURT SAUCE

  • 1 cup plain (unflavored) yogurt
  • 1 small cucumber (peeled and chopped into small pieces)
  • 1 tsp fresh mint
  • salt and pepper to taste

OTHER INGREDIENTS

  • pita bread
  • onion (sliced)
  • tomatoes (chopped)

Directions:

1. Combine lemon juice, garlic and spices. Layer lamb and lemon seasoning mix.

2. Cover and cook on LOW 7 to 8 hours (HIGH 4 to 5 hours). Remove lamb. Discard fat and bone. Thinly slice lamb to serve.

3. Serve on warmed pita bread topped with sliced onion, chopped tomatoes and cucumber yogurt sauce.

Serves: 6    

TEST KITCHEN TIP: Try using jarred garlic (available in your supermarket) if you’d rather not chop fresh garlic.  If you don’t like lamb, try substituting pork or beef for this recipe instead.
