We are seeking qualified candidates for a Global Sourcing Engineering Specialist opportunity at our Corporate Headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia.  The Global Sourcing Engineering Specialist’s primary focus is to provide technical assistance to support the sourcing function within a cross-functional product category team(s) and to lead varying research/projects within the Sourcing Department.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Research, analyze, and provide support/issue resolution and technical expertise to cross-functional product category team(s)
  • Continuous involvement in the Supplier Selection Process to develop a supply base that provides competitive advantage in quality, value/cost, delivery and technology
  • Execute benchmarking activities and cost negotiations
  • Work with China buyers to identify, research, and recommend potential suppliers that align with HBB’s expectations
  • Manage supplier relationships
  • Work with cross-functional product teams and suppliers to support the Value Improvement Program by investigating alternate means to reduce product costs.
  • Develop “should cost” model analysis

Requirements of the position include:

  • BS degree in Engineering or equivalent  technical training and experience
  • 1-4 years of experience in engineering or purchasing; experience working with China based supplier is desirable
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes and materials, including: plastic injection molding, and metal stamping
  • Highly organized self-starter who can manage multiple projects at one time
  • Strong analytical and  interpersonal skills
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to clearly present (written and verbal) recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex  issues
  • Excellent computer skills to include an advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office; proficiency in Tableau or other business analytics software is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience with problem solving, process, and improvement tools
  • Understanding of ERP systems is desired
  • Basic knowledge of project management software (i.e., Microsoft Project, Concerto, etc.) is preferred
  • Must be able to travel to overseas suppliers on occasion

The successful candidate will have proven ability to support multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment with simultaneous priorities.  He or she must be a dedicated, analytical, results driven self-starter with a strong work ethic and must have demonstrated the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
