Public Relations Specialist (Approximately 30 hours per week)

We are seeking qualified candidates for a Public Relations Specialist opportunity at our Corporate Headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia.  The person in this position will work approximately 30 hours per week.  The individual in this position will coordinate and implement communications projects and events in conjunction with Corporate Communications and Marketing Teams to support business goals of the company. The Public Relations Specialist will also evaluate and report on effectiveness of communications and digital outreach strategies, and recommend changes or improvements.  Lastly, this role will assist with communications outreach and media relations along with writing content and press releases.

Responsibilities of the position include: 

  • Conduct traditional and digital media outreach and content development, including writing press releases, brand messaging, media pitches and influencer outreach across all Hamilton Beach brands
  • Assist and manage production of all media kits and press materials for outreach and events
  • Assist in management of media monitoring database for the communications department and report monthly and quarterly on media impressions across select Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc.
  • Develop and maintain strong media and influencer relationships and proactively cultivate new relationships
  • Keep abreast of product knowledge, brand guidelines, trends, and new product development as it relates to the communications department
  • Collaborate with the marketing teams to promote Hamilton Beach products via PR channels
  • Interact with senior management and all departments to provide communication assistance

Requirements of the position include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 2 - 5 years of experience in public relations in an agency or corporate environment
  • Food industry or consumer brand experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Proficient in media and influencer monitoring platforms like Cision and/or Meltwater and news release distribution such as PR Newswire
  • Ability to travel periodically – including outside of regular work hours and weekends to serve as key point person for events
  • Ability to create and maintain long-lasting relationships with media and external audiences including editors of leading media outlets
  • Candidate must submit 3 writing samples

The successful candidate will be a creative, results driven self-starter with a strong work ethic, excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills, and will have demonstrated the ability to work independently and use good judgment.
