Ingredients

  • 8 ounces brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons half and half
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons vanilla simple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon beet juice
  • ½ teaspoon cocoa powder

Directions

  1. In your coffee maker, brew 8 ounces of strong black coffee
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together half and half, beet juice, vanilla simple syrup, and cocoa powder.
  3. Using a milk frother, froth the half and half mixture. If you do not have a milk frother, heat the half and half in the microwave-safe jar for one minute. Shake the jar to "foam" the milk.
  4. Stir your half and half mixture in with your coffee and top with chocolate shavings, if desired.

Makes: 1 cup

Test Kitchen Tip: While beet juice might seem like a strange ingredient to add to your coffee, it gives this latte a rich red color and a surprising earthy flavor. You can find beet juice at many grocery stores in the produce section.
